Announcing MBI 2011: Valhalla
Minnesota Brass is proud and excited to announce the 2011 production: Valhalla.
For the ancients, death on the battlefield was not to be feared. The souls of those who were worthy were met by the Valkyries and escorted to Asgard, the home of the gods. There, they would join their fallen brethren in the great expanse of Valhalla, the Hall of the Slain. Led by the great God Odin, the fallen heroes feasted as they prepared for the final battle of the world. There was no heaven, no eternal salvation waiting for them. For the warrior, Valhalla was reward enough.
The great Norse myths provide the context and rich visual details of the 2011 Minnesota Brass production, Valhalla. The journey of the Vikings from battlefield to the great Hall of the Slain will unfold musically and visually. Collecting music from diverse contexts and moods, Minnesota Brass will create a powerful journey of the Viking warrior.
Musical inspiration includes: “Immigrant Song” by Led Zepplin; “Children’s Hour of Dream” by Charles Mingus; “Imagine” by John Lennon and Richard Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries” from Die Walküre.
