Absolutely. It is encouraged to have a job and be in school while participating in MN Brass Indoor.
Rehearsals take place on the weekend: Primarily Friday nights 6PM - 10PM and Saturdays 10AM - 5PM. MN Brass Indoor schedules one weekend off a month, except in the month of February. NOTE: The schedule is subject to change depending on changes in rehearsal facilities or the addition of performances, etc...
MN Brass Indoor will help to make arrangements and try to ensure every member from out of the area has a safe place to stay during rehearsal weekends. For out of town performances, MN Brass Indoor will arrange housing for the entire ensemble.
A Winter Guard International (WGI) Policy created in 1996 reads:
“WGI discourages independent units from utilizing membership composed of any high school students who were previously enrolled in an active indoor percussion high school program and have not yet graduated.” MN Brass Indoor will in no way recruit students from local high school programs that have a competitive indoor percussion program. MN Brass Indoor believes that by helping local high school programs grow, that all organizations will prosper in the future. If your current high school does not have a competitive indoor percussion program, then you are welcome to audition for MN Brass Indoor.
Membership tuition is $700 plus $100 in fundraising requirements. Payment due dates are scheduled throughout the season for those who cannot pay in one lump sum. Fundraising opportunities will be given throughout the season. MN Brass Indoor does everything possible to manage expenses to keep tuition as low as possible. Our instructional and support staff largely donate their time. Unfortunately, with soaring cost in fuel, food, etc... MN Brass Indoor cannot offer any scholarships or leeway on paying dues.
There is no fee to audition for the 2012 MN Brass Indoor ensemble.
Not included in the membership tuition are expenses like a member jacket ($78) and any shoes/uniform pieces not created by our sewing crew. Some meals during camps and out of town trips are provided, but for the most part, the member is responsible for their meals.
It is our hope that performers from MN Brass Indoor would have an interest in teaching high school groups in the area. Often there are many opportunities. Becoming a part of MN Brass Indoor, you will realize all members involved make many sacrifices; one is the sacrifice of time. Attendance at rehearsals is mandatory. Even with teaching other groups, one must understand that you have made a commitment to be a performer with MN Brass Indoor. School related activities that are part of a grade for a the class, and family emergencies have been excused in the past. Time management of your family, school, work, and social schedules need to allow you to attend every rehearsal.
